Workshop: Introduction to Git using R
Workshop Overview:聽In this 2h-workshop, participants will obtain a basic introduction to version control using git and GitHub. Using a sample project, participants will perform some basic git operations in both RStudio聽and the command line. Emphasis is on sharing code to further reproducible research. Advanced operations, such as those used in software development, will not be demonstrated.
At the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
-聽 Understand the theory behind version control systems.
-聽 Learn best practices using git for reproducible research.
-聽 Make changes to a project in RStudio, commit to git and push it to GitHub.
Prerequisites:
-聽 Understanding of filesystems, e.g. from聽听飞辞谤办蝉丑辞辫;
-聽 Basic knowledge of R and聽RStudio.
-聽 Install R and RStudio on your computer. You can find installation instructions聽here. Please contact us (cdsi.science [at] mcgill.ca) if you are having trouble with installation.
- You need to bring your own laptop for this workshop. Contact us if you would like to attend but it's impossible for you to bring a laptop.
