Dr. Masha Prager-Khoutorsky awarded Brain Canada grant

Published: 13 November 2020

Congratulations to physiology faculty member Dr. Masha Prager-Khoutorsky, one of 20 Canada-wide聽recipients of the award. This grant program provides聽early-career neuroscience researchers聽the opportunity to develop new lines of research and gather preliminary data to apply for larger grants.

is focused聽on understanding integrative mechanisms by which the brain regulates basic functions of the body, such as hunger, thirst, and hormonal levels. They are particularly interested in mechanisms by which specific hypothalamic areas communicate with the periphery to detect the levels of circulating molecules (metabolites, ions, and hormones) and to generate adaptive responses to adjust the physiological needs of the organism. Disruption of these mechanisms can lead to pathological conditions such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes. Great job, Masha!
