Renewed appointments for Fabien G茅linas and Genevi猫ve Saumier

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that Professor Fabien G茅linas, Ad E, has been reappointed as holder of a Sir William C. Macdonald chair, and Professor Genevi猫ve Saumier, as Peter M. Laing QC Professor of Law. Both have these chairs since 2016. Their renewed seven-year terms will commence on 1 May 2023.

Professor Fabien G茅linas teaches and conducts research in the areas of international dispute resolution, common law and civil law contracts, commercial law, and legal theory. He was formerly General Counsel of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and past president of the Arbitration Committee of ICC Canada and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Professor G茅linas heads the Private Justice and the Rule of Law Research group and is a cofounder of the Montreal Cyberjustice Laboratory. In 2021, he received the Paul-Andr茅-Cr茅peau Medal, awarded by the Canadian Bar Association 鈥 Quebec Division to honour contributions to the advancement of international aspects of private and commercial law.

Professor Genevi猫ve Saumier鈥檚 research focuses on consumer law, the resolution of international disputes, and cross-border class actions. Her papers on private international law and on consumer arbitration have been cited many times by the Supreme Court of Canada. A titular member of the International Academy of Comparative Law and of the American Association of Private International Law, she has been a member of the board of the Office de la protection du consommateur since 2012. She was appointed co-rapporteur for the judgments convention project at the Hague Conference on Private International Law. In 2016, she received the Canadian Bar Association鈥檚 Paul-Andr茅-Cr茅peau Medal.
