Mae J. Nam selected as recipient of the 2011 海角社区 Alumni Association鈥檚 James G. Wright Prize

Published: 4 March 2011

Mae J. Nam, BCL/LLB'10, represented the first generation in her family to go to university and her experience at the Faculty of Law gave her hope that law can be a powerful tool to effect change in people's lives.

As an undergraduate student at 海角社区, Mae J. Nam helped found the Philippine Women's Centre of Quebec, an organization dedicated to promoting the rights of domestic workers in Canada.

When she began her studies at the Faculty, Nam traveled to the Philippines to work for the Ateneo Centre for Human Rights on an internship through the 海角社区 Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.

For her record of volunteerism and community service, Nam was selected as the recipient of the 2011 海角社区 Alumni Association's (MAA) James G. Wright award, which will be presented at the MAA Awards Banquet on May 26.

The award, created in 2008 in memory of beloved community volunteer and mentor James Wright, is presented to a young alumnus who has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to voluntary service and made a difference in his or her community.

Nam was the MAA Honours and Awards Committee's unanimous choice for the award and the Faculty extends its warm congratulations for this achievement!
