Published: 13 June 2016

The Faculty is pleased to annonce that Professor Yaëll Emerich has been appointed Director of the Paul-André Crépeau Centre for Private and Comparative Law. Her mandate begins on July 1, 2016.

Professor Emerich joined the Faculty in 2006, where she teaches and publishes primarily in the areas of property and secured transactions from a transsystemic perspective. She was interim director of the Crépeau Centre in 2013. She was also MacCormick Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and a visiting professor at the Université de Lyon 3 and at the Royal University of Phnom Penh. Professor Emerich’s thesis, entitled The Ownership of Claims: A Comparative Approach (La propriété des créances : approche comparative (L.G.D.J. ; Yvon Blais, 2007), was awarded the Prix Minerve and the Quebec Law Professors’ Association Prize.

Dean Daniel Jutras’s announcement praised Professor Emerich’s original contribution to private comparative law scholarship, noting her commitment to the study of property and secured transactions from a bijuridical perspective and her careful investigation of their theoretical grounding within the common and civil law.

“Yaëll has greatly contributed to the Centre Crépeau, both as a scholar and as an interim director,” said Dean Jutras. “In the tradition of the great comparative law scholars who have headed the Centre in the past, she will lead the Centre to even greater heights!”

Congratulations, Yaëll!
