It relies on the beautiful and complex machinery of the mitotic spindle to ensure the accurate distribution of genetic material. The spindle is made up of tiny structures called microtubules, which act like molecular cables to move chromosomes to the right places. When these microtubules don't work properly, cells can end up with the wrong number of chromosomes, a condition known as aneuploidy, which is linked to cancer.</p></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-primary-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img class="no-float" src="/channels/files/channels/styles/wysiwyg_medium/public/channels/image/mitotic_spindle.png?itok=t-q-Rj0j" width="160" height="147" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datestamp field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="custom-multi-date"><div class="multi-date first"><span class="label">Published: </span><span class="day">28 </span><span class="month">February </span><span class="year">2024</span></div></div></div></div></div> Wed, 28 Feb 2024 20:51:43 +0000 webfull 198218 at /channels Melting permafrost in arctic ponds: An unfolding factor for climate change /channels/channels/news/melting-permafrost-arctic-ponds-unfolding-factor-climate-change-355437 <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p style="text-align:center">Article by: Yejin Lee, The Tribune聽</p> <p>"Peter Douglas, an assistant professor in 海角社区鈥檚 Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences, and his team recently published a聽research paper聽on greenhouse gas emissions from tundra ponds in northern Canada, aiming to understand one of the most important environmental processes for predicting future climate shifts.聽</p></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-primary-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img class="no-float" src="/channels/files/channels/styles/wysiwyg_medium/public/channels/image/Ponds%20Sampled?itok=yKVjDxAj" width="160" height="120" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datestamp field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="custom-multi-date"><div class="multi-date first"><span class="label">Published: </span><span class="day">14 </span><span class="month">February </span><span class="year">2024</span></div></div></div></div></div> Wed, 14 Feb 2024 19:53:17 +0000 webfull 197801 at /channels Secrets of a Hot Saturn and its Spotted Star Unlocked by 海角社区, Universit茅 de Montr茅al Astronomers /channels/channels/news/secrets-hot-saturn-and-its-spotted-star-unlocked-mcgill-universite-de-montreal-astronomers-354152 <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><h2 style="text-align:center">Article by:聽Claire Loewen, Media Relations, 海角社区</h2> </div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-primary-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img class="no-float" src="/channels/files/channels/styles/wysiwyg_medium/public/channels/image/planet-7382222_640.jpg?itok=EEHd-w8U" width="160" height="92" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datestamp field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="custom-multi-date"><div class="multi-date first"><span class="label">Published: </span><span class="day">11 </span><span class="month">January </span><span class="year">2024</span></div></div></div></div></div> Thu, 11 Jan 2024 13:17:30 +0000 webfull 196309 at /channels CTV News Interview with Dr. Don Baker /channels/channels/news/ctv-news-interview-dr-don-baker-353908 <div class="field field-name-body field-type-text-with-summary field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><p style="text-align:center"><strong>How Climate Change Affected Dinosaurs</strong></p> <p style="text-align:center">CTV News Montreal Interview with Dr. Don Baker</p> <p style="text-align:center"><em>" .</em>.. new evidence from 海角社区 suggests dinosaurs were already dying off due to climate change caused by massive volcanic eruptions.</p></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-primary-image field-type-image field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><img class="no-float" src="/channels/files/channels/styles/wysiwyg_medium/public/channels/image/Don%20Baker%20CTV%20News?itok=yHu6nbf7" width="160" height="90" alt="" /></div></div></div><div class="field field-name-field-published-date field-type-datestamp field-label-hidden"><div class="field-items"><div class="field-item even"><div class="custom-multi-date"><div class="multi-date first"><span class="label">Published: </span><span class="day">3 </span><span class="month">January </span><span class="year">2024</span></div></div></div></div></div> Wed, 03 Jan 2024 13:34:30 +0000 webfull 196055 at /channels
