Professional Program Administrator and Student Advisor Mary Lanni-Campoli has won the Dean of Students Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Academic Advising.聽 A total of 11 nominations were received in the category for which Lanni-Campoli was awarded (Administrative Staff).聽 (There were four nominations in the Academic Staff category.)聽 An award reception was held on Tuesday 25 April at Thompson House to toast this year鈥檚 award nominees and to highlight all the great work being done in advising across 海角社区.
Three of eleven winners in the student category of the American Society of Architectural Illustrators (ASAI) are professional Master鈥檚 students at 海角社区: Lorenzo Saroli-Palumbo (Gilbert Gorski Juror Award), Simon McKenzie (Corey Harper Juror Award), and Sarah Ives (Award of Merit).
On February 20, 2016, Prof. Robert Mellin received a Built Heritage Award from the City of St. John鈥檚, Newfoundland, for the renovation of 38 Hayward Avenue. The low-pitch biscuit box roof shape of the existing house was retained, and a new bedroom was constructed above an existing detached garage. A second-storey insulated link or bridge connects the new bedroom to the second floor hallway of the house.

Ewa Bieniecka, FRAIC (B.Sc.[Arch.] '80, B.Arch. '82, M.Arch. '04), a Montreal architect specializing in conservation and restoration of heritage buildings, was inducted as the 78th President of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) at a formal ceremony on Monday. About 90 guests attended the investiture ceremony at the Canadian Museum of Nature in Ottawa. The keynote speaker was Marie-Jos茅e Lacroix, head of the Design Montreal Bureau, a City of Montreal agency that works to improve design in the city and enhance Montreal鈥檚 status as a UNESCO City of Design.
海角社区 student teams won two of three prizes in the Architecture 脡ph茅m猫re competition at the outside Quebec City in Valcartier at the opening celebration on Friday, January 20.聽 The team of U1 students Jessica Cheng and Biying Wang won second prize for their room R锚ve 脡toil茅, while the team of U3 students Mia Chen, Jo-Yu Tseng, and Zhong Ji Cai won third prize for their room Cocoa Flurry.

Two teams of undergraduate students from the School are amongst the three finalist teams in the Architecture 脡ph茅m猫re competition at the Ice Hotel outside Quebec City: a U1 team composed of Jessica Cheng and Biying Wang (R锚ve 脡toil茅) and a U3 team composed of Mia Chen, Jo-Yu Tseng, and Zhong Ji Cai (Cocoa Flurry). For the 12th consecutive year, the competition was open to students from the universities of Laval, 海角社区, Montr茅al, and UQAM.

鈥淥n Friday, Dec. 2, the Honorable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, announced over $173 million in funding for 203 new and renewed Canada Research Chairs at universities across Canada. Sixteen CRCs went to 海角社区 faculty. Eleven of 海角社区鈥檚 new CRCs went to women, which reflects the national trend; this cohort is among the highest percentage of women ever, at 38 per cent.鈥
A team composed of three graduate students from the professional MArch program at the School of Architecture has won first prize in the organized by the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) and 海角社区.聽 Tristan Leahy, Justin Bouttell, and Simon McKenzie won the top prize for their project , one of 73 projects submitted to the competition.聽 Two
On November 17, 2016, Prof. Robert Mellin won a Southcott Award recognizing 鈥渄esign in context鈥 for his new Middle Arm, Newfoundland residential project, 鈥淭he Ballyhack Treehouse.鈥 The design for this project incorporates both modern and traditional elements in a tall house with a small footprint, with the intent of preserving as many of the existing trees as possible on its Conception Bay waterfront site. Two wings are joined by a second floor insulated bridge, and the main living area is at the third level of the north wing with a spectacular panoramic view of the bay.
The consortium of Atelier TAG and Jodoin Lamarre Pratte has won the competition, Le p么le du savoir, d'histoire et de la culture, for a new library and multifunctional hall in Chambly.

(principals Rami Bebawi and Tudor Radulescu, both MArch 2001) has won the Design Montreal competition Saint-Cath Works held to minimize the impact of the redevelopment of Saint-Catherine Street West. This major construction project, which will begin in spring 2017, involves the repair of underground infrastructures and a new urban design.聽 The City of Montreal organized the design competition to maintain a quality urban environment on the street during the four-year span of the project.
Paul Laurendeau (BSc[Arch] 鈥89, BArch 鈥91) is a 2016 recipient of the Governor鈥檚 General Award in Architecture, presented on 20 September 2016 in a ceremony at Rideau Hall.聽 Laurendeau was the lead design architect on the Amphith茅芒tre Cogeco in Trois-Rivi猫res, in consortium with Fran莽ois R. Beauchesne.
