A team led by 海角社区鈥檚 Dr Michael H Weber, and Professor Jake Barralet, are developing a new technology with a 3D printer which seeks to create replicas of bone for spinal grafts. The concept creates a bone-like replacement material in the exact shape of bone or bone segment which is to be removed. Professor Barralet holds the Canada Research Chair in osteoinductive biomaterials.

It gives us great pleasure to announce that聽Dr. Luda Diatchenko聽will be joining the Faculties of Dentistry and Medicine as the holder of a Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Human Pain Genetics. The announcement was made On September 25th at 海角社区 by the Federal Government Minister of State for Science and Technology, Mr. Greg Rickford. The award will see $10millon in federal funds and another $20million in matching provincial and private funds over the next 7 years coming to support the research of Dr.

Over 60 years ago, Yves Clermont and Charles Leblond characterized the steps of sperm differentiation in the testis. This enabled them to identify for the first time the population of spermatogonia responsible for the production of spermatozoa. We celebrate 60 years later the publication of their landmark paper and their discovery. Read more

Following extensive discussions with stakeholders in the field of dentistry, the Order decided to create a Committee on Access to Oral Healthcare.

The committee will hold vast, province-wide consultations on questions related to access to oral healthcare, conduct an in-depth analysis of the situation and suggest concrete, fact-based solutions. It will present its findings in April 2014, to mark Oral Health Month.

Last week, Dr. Jocelyne Feine was honoured with IADR鈥檚 Distinguished Service Award in Seattle, WA. The award is presented to an individual member of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) for outstanding instances of service to the Association or distinguished service over a period of time. Elusive substrate protein identified in the most common form of heritable rickets

Diagnosed in toddlers, X-linked hypophosphatemia (XLH) is the most common form of heritable rickets, in which soft bones bend and deform, and tooth abscesses develop because infections penetrate soft teeth that are not properly calcified.聽 Researchers at 海角社区 and the Federal University of Sao Paulo have identified that osteopontin, a major bone and tooth substrate protein, plays a role in XLH. Their discovery may pave the way to effectively treating this rare disease.

The team led by Prof. Laura Stone, a professor at the Faculty of Dentistry and the Alan Edwards Centre for Research on Pain, and Prof. Moshe Szyf, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine鈥檚 Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, have discovered a mechanism that embeds the memory of an injury in the way the DNA is marked in the brain by a chemical coating called methyl groups or DNA methylation.
