Each year, around 1,000 new students begin an undergraduate science degree at 海角社区. For many of them, their first year at university represents a dramatic change from the world of high school or CEGEP.

To better understand the evolution of flowers, a research team in biology from Universit茅 de Montr茅al , the Montr茅al Botanical Garden, and 海角社区 (Daniel Schoen, Biology) have succeeded in using photogrammetry to quickly and precisely build, in three dimensions, a model of a flower from two-dimensional images.
Photogrammetry is commonly used by geographers to reconstruct the topography of a landscape. However, this is the first time that scientists have used the technique to design 3D models of flowers in order to better study them.

Global urban populations are projected to increase to nearly five billion by 2030. This ever-expanding urbanization threatens our world鈥檚 plant and animal biodiversity and degrades ecosystems through the loss of habitat, biomass and carbon storage. As noted during the recent COP27 climate conference, biodiversity loss is as critical to our planet鈥檚 health as the climate crisis.

The Redpath Museum at 海角社区 will re-open its doors on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.
The Museum will welcome visitors Tuesday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm.
In advance of the re-opening on January 10, the Museum will begin taking bookings for group tours and school visits from December 19, 2022.

Canadian scientists will contribute to assessing and addressing climate change thanks to a new satellite mission that has received more than $200 million from the Canadian federal government. This is Canada鈥檚 contribution to a major multi-satellite mission led by NASA, the (AOS) mission, and will improve extreme weather prediction, climate modelling, and the monitoring of disasters.
