Abstract

Dengue diagnosis presents significant challenges in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) due to overlapping clinical presentations, resource limitations, and variability in diagnostic tool performance. This presentation highlights Dr. Lyda Osorio鈥檚 research in Colombia, addressing these challenges through the development of clinical algorithms and validation of rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in endemic settings. Beyond improving diagnostic accuracy, her work underscores the critical need for training researchers in innovative models for the research and development (R&D) of diagnostics. By bridging gaps in knowledge and practice, Dr. Osorio鈥檚 contributions enhance healthcare systems and foster capacity building for sustainable dengue control efforts.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this talk, attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the challenges for diagnosing dengue;
  • Critically appraise research studies on dengue diagnostics;
  • Identify gaps and opportunities to improve research in dengue diagnostics.
