As announced in September 2023, Campus Public Safety will launch a new incident management solution which provides a centralized system to manage every incident and request, from initial alert to final report. Here are some updates on what to expect:
What features will be available?
The new solution will be implemented in phases: The first release in early 2024 will offer the following capabilities, which the project team will test and validate with participants from various units:
- Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) module: Will be used by the Security Operations Centre and others to log security incidents and make informed decisions when sending agents/resources to the site of events/incidents.
- Baseline modules: Information repository where resources will be able to access vital information on CPS staff (i.e., certifications, etc.), buildings (i.e., hazardous materials, floor plans, etc.), and individuals (i.e., emergency contact information, office location, etc.).
- Patrol module: Used by security agents to validate different checkpoints throughout our campuses during their rounds by selecting from corresponding lists within the tool. They will also be able to keep records on their completed patrol rounds.
Has anyone seen the new solution yet?
In October and November 2023, CPS provided agents and selected Unit Heads with a sneak peek at the new system in a series of presentations downtown and at the Macdonald campus. These included demos of some of the key features that will be available with the first release. The reaction was overwhelmingly positive - here鈥檚 some of the feedback:
On using the new system:
鈥淚 am looking forward to working with that [CAD/RMS] system, since it is going to centralize all information, and benefit all parties, the different (Campus Public Safety) departments, and our agents will be more efficient in their operations.鈥
- Captain Steven Batista, Contract Officer at 海角社区
鈥淭he CAD, in general just makes things more efficient鈥 more straightforward.鈥
-Lieutenant Thierry Jonathan Marcelin, Controller (Security Operations Center)
On information now available in baseline modules and screens:
鈥...to see all the building plans and really learn more about the buildings where chemicals are stored, safety hazards that we are not even aware of, it is going to be good."
-Sergeant Matthew Kogan, Patroller
鈥...I like what we can do with traffic, where we can see the mobile鈥檚 [mobile resource鈥檚] location. The controller can key point who would be best to send to a call.鈥
-Natalie Fazio, Operations Administrator
Has the system been tested to ensure that it will perform as expected?
A team of Information Technology (IT) developers and analysts, as well as CPS鈥 Business Process Managers, Unit Heads and selected staff are testing key features to ensure that everyone will be able to access and utilize the system efficiently and consistently.
Will there be training?
Training will be managed by CPS with support from IT. Both in-person and online training will be provided to all users. Sessions will be announced in early 2024.
