Decommissioning Research Assets and Supporting Internal Reuse at 海角社区

Published: 17 August 2021

This message is sent on behalf of Procurement Services

Dear Researchers, Dear Colleagues,

As part of the University鈥檚 Asset Management Program, and in an effort to support our Circular Economy initiatives, Procurement Services and the Office of the VP-R&I are launching a new listserv called 鈥淩esearchAssetReuse鈥.

Researchers who intend to decommission research assets must follow the process described in the Research Asset Management Procedure and fill out the 鈥淯sed and End-of-Life Research Asset Management Form鈥 that is on the MMP landing page.

As part of this process, if any Research Asset is to be offered to the community, for reuse purposes, this information will now be shared via a new listserv: 鈥淩esearchAssetReuse鈥 listserv.

We would like to encourage all researchers using technical instruments and equipment, to subscribe to this listserv so they can receive notices when items are made available for reuse. Note that this listerv will also be used when Procurement Services is informed of research assets that are made available from colleagues at other universities as well. These could be -80 freezers, microscopes, scanners, and any other type of research instruments.

To subscribe, please send an email to listserv [at] lists.mcgill.ca with a blank subject line and in the body of the email type in: subscribe researchassetreuse [your firstname] [your lastname]

As a reminder, researchers who are interested in decommissioning and removing equipment from their facilities should contact their dedicated Procurement Services buyer, to assist them in getting the proper authorizations for used or end-of-life management (internal transfers, trade-ins, external sales, inter-institutional transfers, recycling, etc.).

For any questions regarding the functioning of this listserv, or the University鈥檚 Asset Management Program in general, please contact St茅phanie Leclerc, Program Manager for Sustainable Procurement: stephanie.leclerc [at] mcgill.ca
