"I love working in laboratories," says Xindi Zhu, a PhD student working under the supervision of Professor Ashraf Ismail.
Her current research project involves developing and validating methods and databases for the identification of important foodborne pathogens, bovine mastitis-related pathogens, clinical and food molds and yeast, as well as the diagnosis of Covid-19. It's an experience that is providing Xindi with the knowledge and skills that will propel her toward her desired career: research and development of novel food and drug products in the pharmaceutical industry.
"I highly recommend this program if you love putting ideas into action," says Xindi, who has collaborated with Health Canada, CFIA, Universit茅 de Laval and local Montreal hospitals during her time at 海角社区. "What you do in your research will really contribute and advance current knowledge in the field."
