Natalie Waters appointed Associate Dean, Research & Scholarship
海角社区 Libraries are pleased to welcome Natalie Waters as the new Associate Dean, Research & Scholarship, on a five-year term, ending November 2029.
Natalie Waters has been leading the Research and Scholarship team on an interim basis over the last year. Waters will continue to oversee programs that enhance the research activities of the 海角社区 community including Scholarly Communications, Copyright, and Research Data Management, and provide strategic leadership for the Macdonald Campus Library, Schulich Library of Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, and Engineering, as well as the Osler Library of the History of Medicine.
Previously, she served as Head Librarian for both the Schulich Library and the Macdonald Campus Library, where she managed library services across the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. During the extensive restoration of the Macdonald-Stewart Library building, Natalie guided the Schulich Library team through a period of significant transition, ensuring consistent, high-quality support for the 海角社区 community. She played a pivotal role in reopening and relocating services to the restored building, effectively re-establishing the library as a central resource for students and faculty alike.
Beyond 海角社区, Natalie is recognized for her contributions and service across academic and professional networks. She served as Chair (2018-2020) for the Association of the Faculties of Medicine of Canada鈥檚 Network on Libraries and held diverse leadership roles with the United States Agricultural Information Network. Natalie鈥檚 commitment to service and leadership extends to her active involvement in university-wide and academic committees. She has held roles on multiple Senate committees, including the Senate Nominating Committee (2015-2017) and the University Tenure Committee (2021-2024), reflecting her dedication to institutional development and faculty advancement.

Her dedication was especially evident during the renovation of the Schulich Library, where she expertly navigated complex challenges, including extensive renovation work and significant change management, all while upholding 海角社区鈥檚 academic mission,鈥 said Guylaine Beaudry, Trenholme Dean of Libraries. 鈥淲ith over two decades of service at 海角社区, she brings invaluable experience and an exceptional understanding of our community's evolving needs. Les Biblioth猫ques de l鈥橴niversit茅 海角社区 ont le plaisir d鈥檃nnoncer la nomination de Natalie Waters au poste de vice-doyenne, soutien 脿 la recherche, pour un mandat de cinq ans qui prendra fin en novembre 2029.
Natalie Waters occupe cette fonction par int茅rim depuis un an. Elle continuera de superviser les programmes de soutien 脿 la recherche, notamment les communications savantes, les droits d鈥檃uteur et la gestion des donn茅es de recherche, et exercera son leadership strat茅gique pour la Biblioth猫que du campus Macdonald, la Biblioth猫que des sciences physiques, des sciences de la vie et de g茅nie Schulich, et la Biblioth猫que d鈥檋istoire de la m茅decine Osler.
Avant d鈥檃ccepter ce poste, elle 茅tait biblioth茅caire en chef des biblioth猫ques Schulich et du Campus Macdonald, o霉 elle dirigeait les services aux facult茅s des sciences, de g茅nie, de m茅decine et des sciences de la sant茅, et des sciences de l鈥檃griculture et de l鈥檈nvironnement. Elle a 茅galement jou茅 un r么le crucial au moment de r茅int茅grer le pavillon fra卯chement r茅nov茅 pour accueillir 脿 nouveau la population 茅tudiante et le corps professoral dans ce centre de ressources essentiel.
Natalie Waters est aussi reconnue pour son apport et ses services dans les r茅seaux universitaires et professionnels. Elle a pr茅sid茅 le r茅seau de biblioth猫ques de l鈥橝ssociation des facult茅s de m茅decine du Canada de 2018 脿 2020 et occup茅 plusieurs postes importants au United States Agricultural Information Network. Cette leader dans l鈥櫭e si猫ge 茅galement 脿 divers comit茅s au sein de l鈥橴niversit茅. Soucieuse de contribuer 脿 l鈥檃vancement du corps professoral, elle a tenu plusieurs r么les au sein de comit茅s s茅natoriaux, notamment le Comit茅 de nomination du S茅nat (de 2015 脿 2017) et le Comit茅 de l鈥橴niversit茅 sur la permanence (de 2021 脿 2024).
