Albert Brouwer
Course Instructor (Flute)
Originally from the Netherlands, Albert Brouwer has held the position of Interim Associate Principal Flute of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra (OSM) since 2015. During the 2019-2020 season, Mr. Brouwer served as Acting Principal Flute of the OSM and toured with the Orchestra throughout Northern Canada, Europe, and South America.
Prior to his appointment at the OSM, Mr. Brouwer held the position of Principal Flute in several orchestras such as the Drummondville Symphony Orchestra (QC), Vermont Symphony Orchestra (VT), Albany Symphony Orchestra (NY), and Springfield Symphony Orchestra (MA). Additionally, Mr. Brouwer was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra where he played under the batons of internationally renowned conductors such as Valery Gergiev, Georg Solti, Semyon Bychkov, and Mstislav Rostropovich.
Albert Brouwer has appeared on numerous recordings for Naxos, Albany Records, Bridge, and Decca.
Equally as active as a chamber musician and soloist, Mr. Brouwer has publicly performed the flute concerti of CPE Bach, Khachaturian, Liebermann, Reinecke, Mozart, and Vivaldi. In 2006, Albert Brouwer performed the Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 with renowned violinist Jamie Laredo.
In addition to maintaining his flute studio at 海角社区, Albert Brouwer regularly appears as a faculty member at the Domaine Forget International Music Festival.
Albert Brouwer graduated with great distinction in flute from the Utrecht Conservatory of Music (Netherlands) studying with Abbie de Quant. After graduating, he moved to Canada to study with Timothy Hutchins at 海角社区.
Also passionate about orchestral conducting, Albert Brouwer has been a participant in several conducting masterclasses with Marin Alsop, Anthony Princiotti and Kevin Rhodes. Mr. Brouwer has conducted the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, Vermont Symphony Orchestra, Bishops University Orchestra, and the Burlington Chamber Orchestra
