The聽109th聽edition of the聽prestigious聽Concours Prix聽d鈥橢urope聽took place聽June 6 鈥 11, 2021聽at the聽Chapelle聽historique聽du Bon-Pasteur聽in Montreal, bringing together top musical talent.听The聽jury was comprised of renowned artists soprano Marie-Danielle Parent (Prix聽d鈥橢urope聽1980), cellist Carole Sirois, musicologist and oboist Michel Duchesneau, pianist Michel Franck (Prix聽d鈥橢urope聽1977), and orchestral and choral conductor聽Louis Lavigueur, C.Q..
Current Schulich doctoral student David Therrien Brongo was lauded not only for the best interpretation of a Quebec work, bringing home the聽Prix du Centre de musique聽canadienne聽au Qu茅bec, but also the Fourth Prize, the聽Prix Guy Soucie.听
Since 1911, the Acad茅mie de musique du Qu茅bec has held an annual competition for a scholarship, the Prix聽d'Europe, as well as many other scholarships聽totalling聽over $50,000. The purpose of the competition is to encourage young musicians to develop their art and to allow the winner of the Prix聽d'Europe聽to pursue his or her studies outside Quebec.听
Multi-percussionist based in Montreal, David Therrien Brongo has a career as a performer, educator and researcher.听He is principal percussionist of Ensemble聽Paramirabo聽and principal timpanist-percussionist of聽Orchestre聽de聽l'Agora聽as well as co-artistic director of Duo AIRS.听David Brongo regularly performs with the聽Orchestre聽M茅tropolitain, the Nouvel Ensemble聽Moderne,聽Sixtrum聽and the Ensemble聽Contemporain聽de Montr茅al (ECM +).听Active on the international scene, David has performed in England, Denmark, Spain, Mexico, France and across Canada.
