Presented in English and French with simultaneous translation
Recent studies suggest that children and adolescents today begin to experiment with alcohol and drugs at a younger age than a decade ago. They more frequently ingest these substances to the point of intoxication, and they have increased their consumption of the more dangerous drugs. Adolescents with substance abuse disorders have often other psychiatric diagnoses, including various internalizing and externalizing behavioral disorders, which may in themselves be life threatening. As mental health professionals, we have been increasingly challenged both to develop early preventative programs identifying children at risk for future drug abuse and delinquency, and to devise useful clinical interventions and treatment programs for our drug and/or alcohol-abusing adolescents. The invited speakers at this conference will discuss their extensive experience in the field of child and adolescent substance abuse, focusing on the need for early identification and treatment of children at risk, as well as their clinical experience in working with these adolescents and their families. This conference is of interest to all professionals who work with children and their families.
