Appointment of Prof. Anne McKinney as Associate Vice-Principal, Research and International Relations

Research and International Relations is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. R. Anne McKinney as Associate Vice-Principal, Research and International Relations (AVP-RIR), with a term beginning January 1, 2016 and ending December 31, 2018.
As AVP-RIR, Prof. McKinney鈥檚 principal mandate will be to support the overall mission of advancing research excellence at 海角社区 while increasing research performance and research intensity at the University, with a particular emphasis on鈥� though not limited to鈥攂iomedical and health sciences. She joins Prof. Antonia Maioni, AVP-RIR, whose mandate began in August 2015 with a particular emphasis on鈥� though not limited to鈥� the social sciences and humanities
Prof. McKinney will continue to chair the Brain@海角社区 program, with the mandate to enhance 海角社区鈥檚 performance and positioning in the neurosciences.
Prof. McKinney obtained her D.Phil, at the University of Ulster in 1992, followed by a five year appointment in the Department of Neurophysiology at the Brain Research Institute, University of Zurich as a postdoctoral fellow. In 1998 she obtained her own independent research group at the Brain Research Institute, University of Zurich.
She joined 海角社区鈥檚 Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics in 2005. Prof. McKinney鈥檚 laboratory at the Bellini Life Sciences Building uses molecular, functional and cell imaging approaches to study the synaptic function of proteins and signaling complexes in neuronal circuitry. Prof. McKinney鈥檚 team is working to understand the molecular basis of synapse stability and neuronal circuitry remodeling under physiological and pathological conditions, as well as to develop therapeutic approaches for autism, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases.
Her research has been funded by CIHR, NSERC, ARSACS Foundation and the Alzheimer鈥檚 Society of Canada. Prof McKinney acts as a frequent reviewer for several organizations including the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, NSERC, CIHR, Swiss National Science Foundation and the Agence Nationale de la Recherche France.
