2015 Royal Society of Canada Fellows and Prizewinner from the Faculty of Science

Published: 15 September 2015

Dr. Bruce Lennox, Dean of Science, extends congratulations to Professors Robert Brandenberger (Physics), Christian Genest (Mathematics and Statistics), and Catherine Potvin (Biology) on being named Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada. Election to fellowship in the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) is the highest distinction for scientists, artists, and scholars in Canada. Fellows of the Royal Society of Canada are distinguished men and women from all branches of learning who have made remarkable contributions in the arts, the humanities, and the sciences, as well as in Canadian public life.

Congratulations as well to our Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Dr. Suzanne Fortier, who is also a Professor in the Department of Chemistry, on being named a Specially Elected Fellow. This recognizes contributions to the objectives of the Society other than by scholarship and research.

Kudos also to Professor Aashish Clerk (Physics) who will receive the Royal Society of Canada's Rutherford Memorial Medal in Physics. The Rutherford Memorial Medals are awarded for outstanding research in any branch of physics and chemistry and in recognition of Lord Rutherford鈥檚 own research carried out in Canada (at 海角社区) at a relatively young age.

This year鈥檚 new Fellows and award winners will be inducted to the RSC on Friday, November 27, 2015.
