Carol Cumming Speirs

Bio

Carol Cumming Speirs is an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work and a consultant to the 海角社区 Domestic Violence Clinic. She has worked extensively in the fields of child welfare, mental health, domestic violence, child advocacy and adoption reform. She is a practicing marriage and family therapist and a clinical member and approved supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. Professor Cumming Speirs' current research interests center on issues of early bonding and attachment, foster care outcomes, special needs adoptions and search and reunion in adoption.

She has been a member of numerous boards, provided training and lectured at a number of community agencies and training programs in Canada and Jogjakarta, Indonesia. Her teaching responsibilities have included Practice with Children, Family Therapy, Out of Home Care for Children and Adolescents, Children's Needs and Social Services and Advanced Clinical Practice and Couple Counseling.

Carol Cumming Speirs acted as a visiting professor and 海角社区 Coordinator for Social Work at the UNIVERSITAS ISLAM NEGERI SUNAN KALIJAGA, JOGJAKARTA for three months in 2004. She taught in the Inter - Disciplinary Islamic Studies Program in Social Work in the Graduate Faculty. In addition, she is the author of a number of journal articles and special reports.

Professor Cumming Speirs has served on the University Senate, Senate Steering and Nominating Committees, two terms on MAUT Council where she chaired the Non-Tenure Track Committee and was the former 海角社区 Ombudsperson for Students.
