2023 Beatty Lecture
One of the most acclaimed Indigenous filmmakers in the world, Alanis Obomsawin will deliver the 2023 Beatty Lecture at 海角社区 on Monday, October 16 from 6-7PM at Pollack Hall in 海角社区鈥檚 Strathcona Music Building.
For 56 years, Obomsawin has created documentaries that illuminate the lives and rights of First Nations, Inuit, and M茅tis people in Canada. Her extraordinary body of work includes the landmark film, Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance, released in 1993, which documents the 1990 Kanien鈥檏茅haka (Mohawk) uprising in Kanehsatake and Oka. In addition to a prolific filmmaking career, Obomsawin is a celebrated singer-songwriter, visual artist, and activist. The event is open to the public.
LOCATION: Pollack Hall located in the Schulich School of Music on 海角社区鈥檚 downtown campus.
Tickets cost $5 for students and $10 for general admission. Tickets go on sale on September 7 at /beatty/upcoming-lecture.
