Program Requirements

The B.Com.; Major in Managing for Sustainability is designed for students who wish to combine managerial and business knowledge with a solid understanding of the interlinked economic, social and ecological challenges of achieving sustainability. It integrates management studies with fundamentals of environmental science and sustainability, and is offered in collaboration with the 海角社区 School of Environment and the Department of Geography.

The Major includes: a core set of courses that integrate multiple management disciplines with sustainability; 海角社区 School of Environment courses which cover fundamental concepts of environmental science and human impacts on natural systems; a geography course on analyzing sustainability; and an experiential learning component in the form of a consulting engagement, internship or research project offering 鈥渞eal world鈥 experience.

Graduates will have developed the key competencies required of sustainability professionals, and be prepared for positions in the private sector, consultancies, government, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and international organizations.

All BCom students take a Core curriculum in addition to this Major.

    Economics (Arts) : This applied macroeconomics course focuses on current and recurrent macroeconomic issues important in understanding the public policy environment in which firms make their decisions.     Plant Science : The theory and concepts of plant pathology, including the disease cycle, infection, symptoms, resistance, epidemiology and control. The biology and taxonomy of pathogens will be studied, including fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematodes. Techniques of inoculation, isolation of pathogens from diseased plants, disease diagnosis and pathogen identification will be demonstrated.

    • A $56.14 fee is charged to all students registered in this course, which has a fieldwork component prior to the beginning of classes in August.
