Biography:

Peter Metrakos is a Professor of Surgery, Pathology, and Anatomy and Cell Biology, specializing in general surgery and oncology. His research focuses on liver physiology, pathology, and molecular signatures, with a particular emphasis on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). NAFLD has become the leading cause of liver disease in North America, often leading to serious conditions such as Type II diabetes, liver cirrhosis, and liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma). Professor Metrakos' work aims to develop new therapies for these conditions, utilizing a human tissue bank alongside advanced technologies like proteomics and genomics. His expertise also extends to liver metastasis, liver ischemia/reperfusion injury, neuroendocrine tumors, and tissue banking. With his contributions, he strives to improve treatment options and enhance our understanding of liver-related diseases.聽
