Overview

As a student in this program, you will study music as a vital art form in contemporary society and in the history of Western civilization.  

The program’s central purpose is to emphasize music within broader intellectual and cultural contexts. Its premise is that, as a product of culture, music must be considered in relation to the other humanistic disciplines. Your courses will mostly focus on music theory, analysis and history, but you will also take some courses in musicianship training, adding a more practical component to your degree. Complementary courses will allow you to customize your studies to your own interests.

This program serves as excellent preparation for graduate work in music or for professional studies in other fields. It can allow you to harness your passion for music while opening a variety of doors for your eventual career.
