Multiliteracies Lab for Faculty of Education
海角社区's Faculty of Education has received funding to create a dedicated laboratory space that will serve as a hub for multiliteracies practices in the Education building.
Coined by the (a team of ten academics including Allan Luke) in 1996, 鈥渕ultiliteracies鈥 refers to an acknowledgement of the variety of ways, beyond written text, whereby literacy is practiced in the world today. Emerging communications technologies in a multimedia world demand that conceptions about literacy expand to include text combined with sounds and/or images, online content, and more.
The new multiliteracies laboratory will be located in Room 113, on the 1st floor of the Education building. Educators note that it is an expectation of the聽, and of quality teacher education programs, that teachers be well-versed in cultural and digital multiple literacies. The new laboratory will provide academics, educators and students with the opportunity to explore the growing needs of teaching, learning and teacher education in the 21st century. The project will enter the pre-design phase by the end of 2015, with an allocated budget of $816,000.
