In Canada, ice time is at a premium and the nearest rink might not be able to accommodate your beer league team. But in large cities, there鈥檚 often ice available somewhere, and Jonathan Azouri (BCom鈥16) spotted an opportunity. The co-founder and CEO of CatchCorner by Sports Illustrated, an app that allows users to book sports facilities, launched it in Toronto in 2019 and is now making it available in markets like New York, Los Angeles, and Boston.
Gillian Stein (BCom鈥00)鈥檚 great-grandfather founded the Toronto-headquartered electronics business Henry鈥檚 in 1909, but she never envisioned becoming the company鈥檚 CEO. Growing up, she had seen how stressful running the company could be for her father Andrew, who had a heart attack at the age of 47. 鈥淚 always had a ton of respect and passion and admiration for the business but it wasn鈥檛 something I wanted for myself,鈥 says Stein. 鈥淚 changed and the business changed.

The Public Policy Forum says young individuals across Canada are reporting less positive comments on Canada's democratic institutions.听
January 4 2022 | The Quebec government should establish a comprehensive 鈥渕ade in Quebec鈥 legal framework to tackle intimate partner violence by creating a specific right to adequate housing under the Quebec听Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms听and introduce comprehensive legislation that institutes a right to be free from domestic violence that includes legal recourses in civil matters, argues Pearl Eliadis, Associate Professor at the Max Bell School of Public Policy.听
Congratulations to Maxime Leduc, BSc(AgEnvSc)鈥12, a self-employed consultant in forage systems and Farm Management and Technology Program Lecturer, who has been awarded the Prix Jeune Agronome from l鈥橭rdre des Agronomes du Quebec for his exceptional contributions to Quebec agriculture. Earlier this year Maxime received the Macdonald Distinguished Young Alumni Award.
On December 29th, for the first time in her role as Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon announced Order of Canada appointments and promotions. Among the 135 honorees is Professor (叠.厂肠.(础驳谤)鈥87), the Canada Research Chair in Food, Health and Aging at the University of Guelph.

As a young Macdonald College student, Alton McEwen, BSc(Agr)鈥66, had plenty of opportunities for experiential education during the summer months, working seven days a week on the family dairy farm in the Chateauguay Valley. Thanks to a generous gift from McEwen, internships will continue to play an essential part in the education experience at the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

海角社区 alumnus Marc-Andr茅 Isabelle (Dip.FMT, BEng. Bioresource) is a course lecturer in the Farm Management & Technology program. The Isabelle farm in Coteau-du-Lac, Quebec, has evolved and expanded throughout the years, from dairy to strawberries to produce, and most recently launching FestiFleurs, a popular pick-your-own bouquet event.
Sonder, one of the first unicorn startups from the 海角社区 Dobson Centre for Entrepreneurship community, is partnering with Investissement Qu茅bec (IQ) to build a centre for global growth in Montreal. The project will create more than 700 jobs to support Sonder鈥檚 mission to provide next-generation hospitality in 35 cities around the world.
In November this year, around 400 people gathered at the 海角社区 Faculty Club for the Faculty of Science鈥檚 annual scholarship reception. The evening鈥檚 celebration was an opportunity for donors to the Faculty to meet the students who have benefitted from their generous support.

Addressing the guests, Jo毛lle Begin Miolan, recipient of a 海角社区 Alumni & Friends Undergraduate Research Award, described the opportunity to do research as a defining moment for her self-belief as an undergraduate physics student.
On Canada Day, July 1, 2017, Canada's newest astronauts were announced: Dr. Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Mr. Joshua Kutryk, both from Alberta. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at 海角社区 is very proud of Jennifer's achievement.
Five 海角社区 graduates in Mechanical Engineering are candidates participating in the 2017 Canada Space Agency astronaut selection process.听Vincent Beaudry (M.Eng. '09), Julie Bellerose (B.Eng. Honours '03), Shane Jacobs (B.Eng. '04), Jennifer Sidey (B.Eng. Honours '11) and Genevi猫ve Valli猫res (B.Eng. '02) are running for the chance to be the next Canadian astronauts. Two听individuals will be chosen among 70 exceptional candidates.听.
