Hailing from around the world, 海角社区鈥檚 valedictorians are a diverse, multitalented group. When they came to the University, they brought with them their unique backgrounds, passions, and ambitions. While they all praise the education they received at 海角社区, one thing is certain, the University has benefitted just as much for having them as valuable, contributing members of our community.
Winners for the Faculty of Education Distinguished Teaching Award usually accept their award onstage as part of the 海角社区 convocation ceremonies. As the June 2021 ceremonies were done by video, this year's award recipient, Dr. Marie-H茅l猫ne Pennestri,听was asked to submit a short acceptance speech听addressing the Class of 2021.

Today, 海角社区 lowers its flags in recognition of this tragedy, and we at the Faculty echo the sentiments of the 海角社区 Provost. As our academics, staff, students, and alumni grieve together, we also stand together in support of our Indigenous community members.

Associate Professor Annie Savard (Department of Integrated Studies in Education) was recently interviewed by the Times Colonist, a BC-based publication, about how Canadian students are performing in math颅ematics. Savard "...points out Quebec teachers have a clearer understanding of 'didactic' instruction, a concept championed in France and French-speaking countries. 'Knowing the content of the course isn鈥檛 enough,' Savard says. 'You need what we call didactic [teaching]. You need to unpack the content to make it accessible to students.'
