It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a dear friend of the Redpath Museum, Don Lawrence, who sadly passed away at the age of 90.

海角社区 undergraduates have a unique opportunity to expand their climate science literacy and acquire tools for taking action to reduce the impacts of the unfolding climate crisis.

Registration is now open to students in every program for FSCI 198: Climate Crisis and Climate Actions, a new undergraduate course featuring a team of multi-disciplinary instructors who will present diverse perspectives on the scientific and social dimensions of climate change.

Wild populations must continuously adapt to environmental changes or risk extinction. For more than fifty years, scientists have described instances of 鈥渞apid evolution鈥 in specific populations as their traits (phenotypes) change in response to varying stressors. For example, Spanish clover has developed a tolerance for copper from the mine tailings in which it grows, and the horn size of Alberta bighorn sheep has decreased due to trophy hunting.

A team of international researchers from Canada, Colombia, and Germany has discovered a new marine reptile. The specimen, a stunningly preserved metre-long skull, is one of the last surviving ichthyosaurs 鈥 ancient animals that look eerily like living swordfish.
