OFNIE Annual Summer Institute Hosts 80+ Indigenous Students
From July 5-13, the Faculty of Education's Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) is hosting Summer Institute in the Education Building at 海角社区's downtown campus for students following OFNIE's in-community programs.
More than 8o OFNIE students from 17 different Inuit, Cree, Kanien'keh谩:ka, and Naskapi communities from across (what is now) the province of Quebec.
Wah茅hshon Whitebean, DISE, Named Recipient of Rathlyn Fellowships
Wah茅hshon Whitebean, PhD candidate in the Educational Studies program at the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, was named recipient of Rathlyn Fellowships. Awarded annually through the Indigenous Studies Program at 海角社区, Rathlyn Fellowships support Indigenous graduate students at 海角社区 in their studies and research.
Invitation for Incoming Education Undergrads
EduBuddies is an initiative organized by the Education Undergraduate Society (EdUS), which aims to facilitate the transition to 海角社区 and higher education for the Faculty of Education's incoming first-year students. This program is a wonderful opportunity for upper-year students (rising U2-U4+) to engage in leadership within the faculty and to make a meaningful impact on new students within their program.

Dr. Mindy R. Carter, DISE, has received both the Johnny Salda帽a Outstanding Professor of Theatre Education Award from the American Association of Theatre Education, and the American Association of Theatre Education Distinguished Book Honorable Mention Award for her University of Toronto Press book 鈥淪mallest Circles First鈥.
Claudia Mitchell, DISE, Honoured with ARTS Life-time Achievement Award
Claudia Mitchell, Distinguished James 海角社区 Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education, was recently honoured by the ARTS Researchers and Teachers Society (ARTS SIG) as part of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education with the inaugural 2023 ARTS Life-time Achievement Award.

Meet Mohit Kumar, Education's 2023 McCall MacBain Scholar
Mohit is a Bachelor of Arts graduate (Class of 2023) from Ashoka University, having studied history, international relations, and Persian. Since 2019, he has been working to improve literacy in his community through Sarathi: The Guide. His project has expanded to mobilize 45 volunteers to support 850 students in ten villages. Mohit also works as a residence assistant mentor and volunteers as a peer tutor.

Assistant Professor of Indigenous Education in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education's Janine Metallic was featured in the Montreal Gazette article: First Nations leaders want Quebec to drop plans for Indigenous language law. DISE Professor, Joe Levitan, Recognized with Honorary Doctorate in Peru
Joe Levitan, PhD. Assistant Professor and Graduate Program Director in DISE, was recently awarded an honorary doctorate from the Association of Postgraduate Researchers of Peru (AMADO Pero), a Unesco recognized research organization, for his community-based participatory action research work to improve the quality of education in Peru.
