Key Dates - 2012-13

°Õ³ó±ðÌýCalendar of Academic Dates 2012-13 [pdf], originally approved by Senate in April 2011, was revised in August 2012 to accommodate the cancellation of classes due to a provincial election on September 4, 2012. This document contains the dates around which all other academic activities are built; however, the information on this page is not comprehensive.

Fall 2012

  • Classes begin Wednesday, September 5 (except for Dentistry and Medicine students – please see faculty schedules)
  • Classes end Wednesday, December 5*
  • Exams begin Thursday, December 6
  • Exams end Wednesday, December 19 (10 days, including evening exams)

* On Wednesday, December 5, the normal Wednesday schedule of course lectures, labs and conferences activities will be replaced by a Monday schedule to make up for a shortfall of Mondays in the fall term.

* The schedule patterns in this table follow the same convention as course listings in Minerva, where M = Monday, T = Tuesday, W = Wednesday, R = Thursday and F = Friday. Each pattern indicates the days on which a course is normally held – for example, a course with a MWF pattern is normally held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
** Wednesday, Dec 5 will follow a Monday schedule. Faculties and the School of Continuing Studies have discretion in how the day will be used for their classes (see Makeup days for Election Day, Thanksgiving).

Administrative offices are closed on the following dates:

  • Labour Day: Monday, September 3
  • Thanksgiving: Monday, October 8
  • Holiday break: Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 to Tuesday, January 1, 2013 inclusive

All missed classes will be made up on Dec. 4.

Each instructor will, at his or her discretion, hold classes on Dec. 5. Instructors will notify students in class and in the course syllabus of their decision.

Continuing Studies

All missed classes will be made up on Dec. 4.

All missed classes will be made up on Dec. 5 with some exceptions. ICTs may be used to make up classes, and intensive language courses will be made up at the instructor's discretion. Instructors will notify students in class and in the course syllabus of their decision.

Dentistry

All missed classes will be made up at dates and times throughout the term.

Winter 2013

  • Study break from March 4 to 8 (some exceptions apply)
  • Classes end Tuesday, April 16*
  • Exams begin Wednesday, April 17
  • Exams end Tuesday, April 30 (10 days, including evening exams)

* Tuesday, April 16 will follow a Friday schedule to make up for a shortfall of Fridays in the winter term.
