During the Summer 2024 term, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences will offer its annual Anatomy Prosection Program. The program will run for four weeks, between July 8 - August 2, inclusive. During this time, students will work as anatomy prosectors in the Human Anatomy Laboratory in the Strathcona Anatomy and Dentistry Building. With supervision and guidance, students will be involved in dissecting an allocated number of specimens to grow and improve the laboratory's existing specimen collection.
听
Students must be in good academic standing to receive an Anatomy Prosection Program award. If the Faculty feels that a student's education is in jeopardy by completing this program, it reserves the right to advise the student not to continue with their plans.
Should an award recipient not fulfill their commitment to this program, the faculty reserves the right to recall all or part of the student's funding.
Supervision
Supervision will be provided by Dr. Mikaela Stiver, Dr. Gabriel Venne, Dr. Mette Coleman, Dr. Campbell Rolian, and Dr. Mina Zeroual.
Students will be assigned to work on one or more body regions (e.g., back, upper/lower limb, thorax, abdomen, pelvis, head/neck) and scheduled to work throughout the program period (July 8 - August 2), with guidance from the supervisors.
Eligibility
Applicants must be currently registered at 海角社区 in one of the following undergraduate programs: Medicine (year 1 or 2) and Physical or Occupational Therapy (year 1 or 2).
Application deadline
Applications are due by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23, 2024.
Students must log in to view and complete the online application form.
After pressing the submit button at the bottom of the form, the applicant will see a message on the screen confirming that the application has been received.
Duration and value of award
The laboratory will be open for dissection from Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Students may only attend the laboratory during times outlined in their individual schedule (to be determined) unless otherwise approved by a supervisor.
Within the program dates, each student must complete a total of 45 hours of dissection to finish their assignment. Students' laboratory schedules will be determined by the program's supervisors, depending on student availability and physical distancing requirements in the lab. Students are expected to be flexible with their availability to accommodate the rotating schedules that may include partial and non-consecutive days in the laboratory.听
Medical students from the Outaouais Campus are expected to do their dissections at the Montreal Campus.
Each Anatomy Prosection Program award is valued at $500 and will be paid in a single installment after the program's completion.
Selection criteria and award decisions
Anatomy Prosection Program awards are allocated on a competitive basis. The Selection Committee for the Anatomy Prosection Program will give preference to those students who demonstrate strong anatomical knowledge through past performance in anatomy courses. Preference will also be given to students who have not concurrently applied for the Summer Research Bursary Program. Please note that past dedication, motivation in previous anatomy labs, and proficiency in dissection are strong assets.听
For the Summer 2024 period, the faculty will offer up to 25 Anatomy Prosection Program awards to meet this year's needs in the laboratory. The number of allocated positions will be approximately evenly distributed between the 4 eligible applicant groups (Med 1, Med 2, PT/OT 1 and PT/OT 2).
Notification
By early June, applicants will be notified by email regarding the results of their application.
