The aim of the Primary Care Concentration is to prepare the primary health care nurse practitioner for this multifaceted role in community settings. The primary health care nurse practitioner is prepared to provide and/or collaborate in the provision of services designed to deal with the health care needs of patients of all ages and their families in a variety of primary care settings such as Family Medicine Groups (GMF), GMF-U, CLSC, long-term care facilities and patient homes. The focus is the development of expert clinical competence. The ability to function as an educator, consultant, collaborator, and care provider is essential to the development of clinical expertise. These areas are addressed within the curriculum. In Québec, the primary health care nurse practitioner corresponds with the title Infirmière praticienne spécialisée en soins de première ligne (IPSPL).
For additional information on the Primary Care NP scope of practice, visit the OIIQ’s Pratique clinique de l’infirmière praticienne spécialisée en soins de première ligne (available in French).
The º£½ÇÉçÇø Ingram School of Nursing Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Concentration has been in existence since 2008, having received a full 5-year program accreditation by the Ordre des Infirmières et Infirmiers du Québec/Collège des Médecins du Québec in 2016.
