Cardiovascular

The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital offers the full range of cardiac surgery services to neonates, infants and children with Congenital Heart Disease and acquired heart problems. Our expertise is in early primary and complex cardiac repairs for the entire spectrum of heart malformations. Also offered are pediatric heart transplantation and ventricular assist devices, as part of the 海角社区 Heart Transplantation Program. The Division plays a central role in the multidisciplinary patient care approach, collaborating with our colleagues from pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiac anesthesia, pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care, cardiac perfusion, nursing, physiotherapy, obstetrics, adult congenital cardiology and heart failure to name a few!

The congenital heart surgeons are very involved and continue to offer complex cardiac operations, once the children with Congenital Heart Disease reach adult age at the Maude Unit for Adult Congenital Heart Disease at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

This is unique set-up, allows the congenital heart surgeons to offer their expertise on the same site of the 海角社区 Health Centre, through the entire age spectrum of the patient with Congenital Heart Disease, from the fetus, neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult and old age.

The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery also plays an important role in the education of the 海角社区 Cardiac Surgery Residency Training Program and the University of Western Ontario Cardiac Surgery Training Program.

The MCH Division of Cardiovascular Surgery is also playing a leadership role in the World Society for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, incorporated in Canada with head office at the MCH Division of Cardiovascular Surgery. (www.wspchs.org)
