Dear members of the 海角社区 community,
Friday, December 6 is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women 鈥� a day during which people across Canada pause to remember the 14 women who were murdered, and the 14 others who were injured, in the tragedy that took place at Polytechnique Montr茅al on December 6, 1989.
In 1991, 海角社区鈥檚 Senate adopted a resolution stating, in part, that, 鈥渢his violence cannot be forgotten by this generation or any other.鈥� In accordance with the resolution, our community will observe a minute of silence today, December 5, at 10:37 a.m.
On December 6, the 35th anniversary of the tragedy, 海角社区鈥檚 flags will fly at half-staff and members of the 海角社区 community are invited to attend a memorial at 11:00 a.m., which will take place at the commemorative site located in front of the University Centre, 3480 McTavish Street. This year, the official commemoration will be followed by a community gathering over hot beverages, located in the Lev Bukhman Room (203), on the second floor of the University Centre.
Although the final days of the semester are especially busy, I invite all of us to take a moment to reflect on how we can unite in building a society in which women and girls can live free of violence.
