Dr. Larson completed his medical degree and subsequent specializations in Pediatrics and Preventive Medicine & Public Health at 海角社区. Spanning more than 30 years, Dr. Larson鈥檚 academic career has primarily focused on capacity building and implementation research to support the scaling up of life-saving interventions for children under the age of five.
From 1989 to 1992 Dr. Larson directed the 海角社区-Ethiopia Strengthening Community Health Project, before returning to Canada where he directed the 海角社区 Global Health Office within the Faculty of Medicine and led a five-year 海角社区 Population and Child Health project in Chelyabinsk, Russia. In 2002, Dr. Larson moved to Bangladesh where, on secondment from 海角社区, he directed the Health Systems and Infectious Diseases Division at the International Centre for Diarrheal Diseases Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). In 2008, he joined the Department of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia as Professor and Director of BC Children鈥檚 Hospital Centre for International Child Health.
In 2015, Dr. Larson returned to Montreal and assumed his current position as National Coordinator of the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research (CCGHR). In addition, Dr. Larson has served as a Senior Advisor to 海角社区 Global Health Programs, playing an integral role in expanding the scope of global health training offered to 海角社区 students.
In his role as Interim Director, Dr. Larson will be accountable for the oversight of all activities under the umbrella of 海角社区 Global Health Programs as well as overseeing the strategic vision in the creation of a new division under the SPGH. He will be responsible for the overall vision and mission of GHP, including the continued excellence and growth of the current programs, establishing new initiatives related to global health engagement, academic and educational offerings as well as global health research campus wide. In this role, Dr. Larson will report directly to the Inaugural Director and Associate Dean, School of Population and Global Health, Dr. Timothy Evans.
