Historically, Black people have been underrepresented in healthcare professions. The FacultyÌýof Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences has created the Black Candidate pathway as an equitable application process to increase the representation of Black applicants from Quebec admitted to the DMD program. This pathway is in alignment with ourÌý5-Year Strategic PlanÌýand º£½ÇÉçÇø'sÌýAction Plans to Address Anti-Black Racism.
There is no limit in the number of seats for admission through the Black Candidate pathway. All candidates who apply through this pathway will be simultaneously considered in the general Quebec resident cohort and may receive an invitation to interview through either pathway.
As the Faculty does not have a separate applicant category for Black students, we encourage all applicants who self-identify as Black to notify the Admissions Office by selecting "I wish to be considered" for the Black Candidate pathwayÌýon their Academic History Workbook (item #2). This will allow their application to be evaluated through the pathway selection process, with their consent. Self-identification and participation in this pathway are optional and in no way negatively impacts the admission decision.
Requirements
- Self-identify as Black
- Have a minimum cGPA of 3.4/4.0Ìýor higher
- Meet all the academic and non-academic requirements for admission to the DMD program
- Submit your application by November 1st and required supporting documents by November 3
Required documentation
Candidates who self-declare as Black will be required to submit by the November 3 deadline a personal statement to contextualize their life experiences. A checklist item will then be added to their Slate account allowing them to upload their personal statement once completed.

Selection Process
Admission into the DMD Program involves aÌýholistic assessment approach that takes into account academic criteria (minimum cGPA of 3.4), non-academic criteria (CASPer), and life experience (personal statement and CV). The personal statements will be assessed by Black community members and health care professional admissions file reviewers.ÌýThe candidates endorsed by the file reviewers will proceed to the Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMIs).ÌýThe offers of admission will be based on the performance at the MMI within the Quebec resident cohort.Ìý
