Caitlin Mazurek's Successful Doctoral Defense in KPE
On Friday, February 23, Caitlin Mazurek successfully defended her multidisciplinary PhD thesis titled "Knowledge creation and translation in sports biomechanics: applications in ice hockey."
Her research includes work on hockey skating coordination, academic and industry research partnerships in sports science, and implementing biomechanical analyses with a remote First Nation hockey team.
Dr. Samaila Suleiman, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria, Provotial Visiting Fellow-in-Residence on Black Life and History
In February and March, 海角社区 will be hosting Dr. Samaila Suleiman, Associate Professor, of History, Bayero University Kano, Nigeria. In addition to conducting research and co-teaching with Nanre, Dr. Sulieman will be holding a special workshop on archiving and a keynote lecture.
Matthew Slopecki Presents Innovative Wearable Technology Research to Aid Team Canada Paralympic Swimmers
Matthew Slopecki, Ph.D. candidate in the Biomechanics of Occupation and Sports Lab, recently presented his research on an innovative wearable technology approach to quantify performance and fatigue related changes in the movement patterns of Paralympic Swimmers.
He presented at both the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports "Mid-Year Symposium" and Institut National du Sports du Qu茅bec's conference series "The Ingenuity Behind the Performance".

B.Ed. Alum Finalists for McCall MacBain Scholarships
Margaret Mackenzie and Samantha Nepton, both 2023 graduates of the Bachelor of Education program, are finalists for the McCall MacBain Scholarships, Canada鈥檚 largest leadership-based scholarships for master鈥檚 and professional studies.
Each finalist was chosen based on their character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.
BOS Lab's Luke Spagnuolo Receives Gord Sleivert Young Investigator Award
Luke Spagnuolo has received The Gord Sleivert Young Investigator Award at the 2023 Sport Innovation Conference.
Luke received this award for his thesis project examining muscle fatigue in USports rowers which he presented at the conference in Halifax.

Silar Gardy, PhD candidate in the the DKPE's Musculoskeletal Health & Physical Activity (MPAct) Laboratory (Supervisor: Dr. Jenna Gibbs), has received a research fellowship from the RSBO Network (R茅seau de recherche en Sant茅 Buccodentaire et Osseuse).
Silar's research aims to understand the role of nutrition and exercise in preventing bone fragility in endurance-trained individuals and athletes. 听

Prospective Undergraduates Eligible for up to $12,000 with 海角社区 Canada Award
On December 19, 2023, 海角社区 announced it is launching a $3,000听Canada Award听to offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to 海角社区 will be eligible for the new award.
