SESSION A: Using 海角社区 Library Resources for work, play, change

Speaker: Jeffry Archer

Description: Library resources are for everyone at 海角社区 including you! Jeffry Archer, Associate Dean, Library User Services will walk you through a new subject guide developed especially for 海角社区 staff members. Learn how to access 海角社区 resources anytime on topics like: health & wellness, change management, resilience, work-life balance, etc.

Bio: Jeffry Archer joined 海角社区 in 2016 after more than over two decades with Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago, where he most recently served as Head of Reference, Instruction and Outreach (RIO) and Bibliographer for Business and Economics. Archer was an active participant in desk and email research consultations and in providing specialized reference and bibliographic services to support teaching and research programs. He also led initiatives on campus, including efforts to increase disability accommodations and accessible technologies in the library. As Associate Dean, User Services, Archer plays an integral part in shaping the Library鈥檚 role in the 海角社区 community moving forward. Technology has altered the very mandate of modern libraries, and pivoting and developing services centered squarely on the needs of users鈥攕tudents, faculty, staff or researchers鈥攈as become a crucial component in re-imagining today鈥檚 spaces.

Description: For the first time in the history of teamwork, leaders find themselves working across four generations on a daily basis, in charge of teams with a hugely diverse age range. This unique moment poses great opportunities for creativity, growth and dynamism in the workplace. It also poses interesting challenges for leaders working across differences, understanding intergenerational communication and getting the most out of their teams. The facilitator will use creative methods to explore with participants key themes related to the intergenerational workforce. At the end of this workshop, individuals will have had an opportunity to look at, understand, challenge and work with intergenerational differences in teams. In this interactive session, you will engage with timeless principles and strategies from Jack Canfield鈥檚 鈥淭he Success Principles鈥� that you can implement immediately in your day-to-day to be more effective and take yourself, your work and your team to the next level.

Bio: Catherine Awad is Associate Director, Global Employer Relations 海角社区鈥檚 Desautels Faculty of Management and Founder of La Vita Ventures, a Life+Style Design & Coaching company.

Catherine鈥檚 career focus lies at the intersection of leadership, strategy, innovation and relationship management in the high tech private sector and at 海角社区. She has coached over 500 海角社区 MBAs to succeed in the highly competitive job market and customized corporate trainings as Program Manager at the 海角社区 Executive Institute.

As a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach (CPCC) and a trainer of Jack Canfield's "The Success Principles", Catherine aims to inspire others to develop to their full personal and professional potential and achieve success on their own terms. She holds an MBA degree as well as a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering.

SESSION D: Empathic Consciousness: The Key to Collaboration

Speaker: Anita Nowak

Description: Breakthroughs in neuroscience have shown that humans are empathic by nature. And social scientists argue we are becoming an increasingly empathic civilization. How can our innate capacity to empathize be fully leveraged to achieve greater collaboration? (And innovation. And job satisfaction.) In this session, you鈥檒l discover how.

Bio: Anita Nowak, PhD is an empathy expert, author and social impact coach. She believes in the power of 鈥淓mpathic Action鈥� 鈥� an idea that informs all her teaching, writing, coaching, consulting and public speaking. She teaches Leadership and Social Entrepreneurship & Innovation and was awarded Professor of the Year by the Desautels Management Undergraduate Society in 2014. In 2014-15, she helped co-create 海角社区鈥檚 Social Learning for Social Impact MOOC (Massive Open Online Course). Prior to that, she was the founding Director of the Social Economy Initiative (SEI) and responsible for integrating social entrepreneurship and social innovation into the faculty鈥檚 teaching, research and outreach. She is author of The Empaths Strike Back: Stories of Everyday Heroes Using Empathy to Change the World (forthcoming). As a three-time TEDx speaker (75K+ views), she also curates the Empathic Action Facebook community page and hosts a YouTube channel by the same name.

SESSION E: Translating Sustainability: Moving from Connection to Action

Speakers: Shona Watt and Amelia Peres

Description: In this session, we will explore our personal relationships with the idea of sustainability, and reflect on the strength and value of meaningful connection. We will then discuss translating that individual connection to collective action, including the associated strategies, pitfalls, and techniques. Our hope is to foster a renewed sense of personal motivation, and a clearer idea of how to effectively share that motivation for sustainability with those around you.

Bios: Amelia Peres, Vision 2020 Administrator. Amelia works at the 海角社区 Office of Sustainability to implement and track the next phase of the Vision 2020 climate & sustainability action plan. She works with individual units on campus to help them craft their own sustainability action plans.

Shona Watt, Sustainability Officer - SPF Administrator. Shona works at the 海角社区 Office of Sustainability to develop staff and student engagement programs. She also manages the finances and human resources of the Sustainability Projects Fund to ensure that project teams are successful.
