Overview
The multidisciplinary General Practice Residency at the Jewish General Hospital of CIUSSS West-Central Montreal is a comprehensive hospital-based academic program. It provides an enriching clinical experience combined with an exhaustive curriculum covering all facets of dental medicine. It offers a broad scope of clinical activity that allows the resident to undertake complex dental care in most dental disciplines under the supervision of dental specialists and general practitioners.
The program is based in a tertiary care hospital which exposes the resident to emergency dental care, oral oncology, facial pain management, dental care for the neurodivergent population as well as individuals with physical and cognitive disabilities. The focus of the training program is an advanced education in general dentistry.
Objectives
- To provide the highest standards of care to patients.
- To increase the overall professional competence of residents.
- To provide knowledge and experience in greater depth (beyond the undergraduate level) in several of the specialties of dentistry and the sciences pertaining to them so as to enable residents to cope with problems encountered when practicing independently.
- To enhance residents’ capacity for critical analysis of developments in the various branches of dentistry and to encourage continuing self-education.
- To improve residents’ ability to correlate activities in the allied disciplines of dentistry and the relationship of dentistry to medicine.
- To provide a working knowledge of hospital and operating room procedures.
- To provide residents with an opportunity to participate in a clinical research project.
