It offers a broad scope of activity that ranges from emergency dentistry, dental oncology, prosthodontic rehabilitation, oral facial pain management, dental care for the neurodivergant population and people with disabilities, oral pathology, and community outreach.Ìý
Objectives
Residents will gain experience in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, oral surgery, endodontics, orthodontics and periodontics.
Many opportunities are available to pursue interests in specific fields and to hone skills in digital dental medicine and implantology, and treatment planning of patients that are medically compromised and require clearance for dialysis, organ transplant, heart valve replacement, radiation and chemotherapy for metastatic disease, and orthopedic surgery. Research has been integrated into the residency program to promote scientific development in a stimulating environment. Residents can conduct original research on a specific topic of interest, follow the objectives of a research orientation, carry out a scientific study, analyze data, and contribute new knowledge to their field.
Rotation Schedule
Most rotations are integrated into the clinical schedule to allow for multiple academic sessions to take place concurrently while patients continue to be followed by the same resident.
OMFS - Montreal General Hospital
During the two-week rotation, residents will be an integral part of the oral surgery team by assisting in the operating room, doing rounds, attending lectures, and actively participating in clinical activities and on-call duty.
Anesthesia - Montreal General Hospital
This two-week rotation will give residents first-hand experience in pre, peri and post operative management of patients by the Anesthesia team. Residents will have the opportunity to be involved in the intubation and sedation of patients prior to surgery. This rotation is an important component of sedation certification.
Oral Pathology - Montreal General Hospital
Residents will learn to diagnose and manage common oral lesions and pathologies of the head and neck region.
Dental Oncology/Oral Medicine – Royal Victoria Hospital (Glen site)
The Head and Neck Oncology Clinic at the Cedar Cancer Centre located at the Glen site of the MUHC provides care for patients diagnosed with head and neck cancer that require clearance prior to radiation and chemotherapy, as well as monitoring during and after treatment. Patients receive comprehensive care at our facilities and are accompanied during their time of need. Residents will be actively involved in the treatment and management of side effects related to chemo and radiation therapy.
Orofacial Pain - Montreal General Hospital
Under the tutelage of specialists, residents will gain experience in identifying and managing chronic pain associated with orofacial conditions and temporomandibular disorders as well as sleep disorders.
Welcome Hall Mission / community outreach - Jim Lund Dental Clinic

Oral Health Clinic for the Neurodivergent Community - Montreal General Hospital

We also treat elderly patients with dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease who are no longer able to cooperate or provide consent to better manage their dental needs. We work closely with The Neuro (Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital) to treat and assist patients with neurological disorders or who have had a stroke.
